Throwing the haggis attracted a crowd (and just look at the weather).

Viv Murray follows through in style.

The Scottish record is about 184 ft. (about 56 m.)

Week 5 records from the 2007 inaugural competition:

Juniors (under 12) 22.22 m. (small veggie)
Peter McClure.

Women 27.65 m. (small McSweeny's)
Fiona Murray.

Men 39.11 m. (standard McSweeny's)
Gordon Gilchrist.

Fiona Murray launches the winning throw.

The traditional way (says Gordon) is to stand on the top of an upturned half whisky barrel and launch the haggis. The throw is void if you fall off the barrel. In the interests of elf and safety Gordon introduced the hula hoop, thereby denying the spectators much raucous merriment. If you step outside the throw is void.

Gordon took part in one competition where you were allowed as many throws as you wished, but before each throw you had to drink a half of whisky and donate 50p to the local mountain rescue fund. Understandably he's no quite sure where or when that took place.

Fiona collected her prize.

'It's the bottle or me Fiona, you choose', says Gordon. Well, what do you think?

Gordon kept himself in reserve until the later stages of the men's haggis and showed how it should be done.

Peter was the junior haggis-throwing winner.

Distances and rules will be added.
