Fiona Murray launches
the winning throw.
The traditional way (says Gordon) is to stand on the top of an
upturned half whisky barrel and launch the haggis. The throw is
void if you fall off the barrel. In the interests of elf and safety
Gordon introduced the hula hoop, thereby denying the spectators
much raucous merriment. If you step outside the throw is void.
Gordon took part in one competition where you were allowed as many
throws as you wished, but before each throw you had to drink a half
of whisky and donate 50p to the local mountain rescue fund. Understandably
he's no quite sure where or when that took place.
