Lochs Achray and Venachar from the summit of Ben Venue.

For some years Jean Storer has organised a walk to the summit of Ben Venue for a group from the Ayr & District Rambling Club on the Sunday of week 5. Any week 5ers with the boots, waterproofs, and the inclination are welcome to join the party.

Ben Venue can be reached from the path that begins on the Ledard Farm lane right beside Forest Hills. I joined the group this year. In all the years I have been at Forest Hills, this is my first time on the summit of Ben Venue.

Summit 729m.

Total ascent 936m.

Distance (from FH and back) 7.4 miles.

Red deer hinds seen from a distance on the hills above Forest Hills.

We also saw wild goats.

The deer were on the crest of the hill beyond the trees.

The weather was grey and misty while we were on the tops, but brightened considerably on the descent.
