Kirkland Trophy

Corrie Lawrence is asking for support for the Kirkland Trophy. This used to be a women-only competition but is now being opened to men. It is for new and inexperienced curlers with up to about 5 years experience, and is intended to instruct them in the rules and etiquette of the game. It runs fortnightly throughout the season on Mondays at 12.00. Anyone interested should give their name to Corrie, or contact the office at the ice rink.

AGM and ACM

26 members (more than half of the curling membership) attended the Annual General and Curling Meeting of the club in the Failford Inn on Tuesday 8th May 2012. The new president Niall Mackie closed the meeting at 9.44 p.m. The new vice-president is Carlos van Heddegem.

Jim Smith Pairs

Shock result - David Reader not in the winning pair.

Jim Smith and Carlos van Heddegem beat Willie Morton and David Reader. After 6 ends they were tied 5-5 (one end of 5 shots for Willie, 5 ends of 1 shot for Jim). The skips settled the match by drawing the shot; Willie made the four-foot but Jim was on the button. More..

Parish Trophy

Tarbolton, skipped by Robert Struthers, lost to Dundonald. The trophy was won by Galston.

Finnie Kettle

The Finnie Kettle was played on 25th October. Willie Morton was the TCC skip. I regret to say that I have no record of who was our opposition or of the result.

Tarbolton CC won the match on ends, and the trophy was awarded to Jim Wilson.

Day League A

Tarbolton CC wins the A league with one game to go.

Having won all 6 games played, TCC has won the A league, whatever the outcome of the remaining game. Our rink has consisted of Robert Struthers, Willie Morton, Jim Smith, and Margaret Morton, with alternates Carlos van Heddegem, Ian Wilkie, and Allan Ferguson each playing one game as lead. This is in our first season after promotion from League B!

This was won by John Wylie, Allan Ferguson, and Andy Dickie with +6 shots.

It was disappointing that we were short of 4 curlers - only 20 on the ice out of a playing membership of 47. Where was the party?

This was a sore one, with Sadie Kennedy winning 8-3 against John Wylie, and Johnny Johnston beating George Hunter 16-3.

Eglinton Jug

Willie Morton, David McClure, Margaret Morton, Carlos van Heddegem lost to Troon Portland (Andrew Kerr).

Robert Struthers, Jim Smith, Ian Wilkie, Hugh Rooney had a walk-over against Galleon 2 (man short). We had to scratch from the game against Doonfoot in the next round because one of our rink was taken ill. Both skips think the club should enter a single rink next year.

First games

The first two games in each of the leagues have been played, and all with their full complement of 8 curlers on the ice. The tables will be on the board before our next game, and all the results are online.
